Many Uses for Stones

E. has enjoyed making Mat Man (from the resource Handwriting Without Tears).

 He has also enjoyed the book, "No David" written by David Shannon.

 He was making Mat Man then decided to make David. "He needs teeth," he said as he looked at the book, at the picture of David with his sharp teeth.

 We used stones. Sharp stones. Like the sharp teeth David has. Many uses for stone.

Yarn Trap

The yarn was used to make a trap.  It was tied to a picture frame and a basket. Each was positioned on shelves across from one another.  The children had to go "under" the trap to get to the carpet for whole class time. There was a lot of sharing of ideas, problem solving, and use of the positional language "over" and "under" and "around".
