"I'm bored."

Most children will happily choose something that interests them from the activities on offer in the classroom. One boy, on his second day at school, said, "I'm bored."  He'd previously said that the song '1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive' was for babies so I am aware I need to provide some challenges for him. I invited him to take a seat at the table. I put a piece of paper in front of him.  He asked, "What do I draw?" I looked out the window, at the car park, and answered, "You Dad's car."  "How do I draw a car?" he asked. "I don't know," I said and walked away. A couple of minutes later he came to me with his picture. "Ow, interesting car," I said. "It's not a car. It's a submarine. Two small submarines. And two big submarines." He then moved on to play with a group of children who had the dinosaurs at a table. I wonder if he'll be bored again in the
